As a Business Development Manager you will focus on leading and developing a high performing Van Sales team across the Island of Ireland to accelerate revenue across all key convenience retailers; drive delivery of merchandising standards and market-leading execution at the point of sale at store level; own and lead the development of new business with multi-site convenience chains; drive performance and market penetration to a new level which will justify further investment in the team

The person should ideally be based in a central location on the island of Ireland and the successful candidate will be expected to spend 4 days per week with the field sales team in the market.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Directly manage a team of up to 7 Sales Developers -the role is field based and therefore will require a significant level of travel across the island of Ireland with occasional requirement to overnight.
  • Work with the commercial, marketing, finance, and operations teams to ensure all key business objectives are fully delivered by the sales team
  • Completion of routine performance reviews and the development of action plans to ensure delivery in line with the company business plan.
  • Execute best in class merchandising and execution standards in store which reflect our portfolio priorities and NPD targets
  • “Set up the team to Succeed” with appropriate meeting routines and reviews, establish a clear team brief and apply all necessary tools required to achieve the execution standards expected.
  • Utilise data and insights to drive category sales through distribution and regional store gap analysis
  • Manage the recruitment, personal development and training needs of all field sales team members
  • Instill a culture of high performance, winning at the point of sale combined with a reputation for excellent customer service
  • Provide on-going feedback and support to the field sales team to identify and develop new customer opportunities
  • Ensure all field sales routes are up to date and reflect the live customer base with relevant store contacts.
  • Ensure appropriate standards are maintained for satellite depots, including routine stock takes as required
  • Act as the contact point/knowledge expert for our Field Sales IT solutions providers
  • Monitor and action the customer debtors list

What you’ll need to succeed

You should have at least 3 years’ experience in a FMCG field sales role, a proven track record of negotiating and influencing skills and an in-depth knowledge of the FMCG Irish retail market including multi-site convenience chain operators. Ideally you have a track record of building and developing strong long term customer relationships and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships with customers at all levels. The role could suit a high performing territory manager looking for their first people management role or an existing Field Sales team leader who is currently managing an in-field team. You must have a full clean license.
